London's Largest Living Room 3

London Festival of Architecture 2008

Londoners found a home away from home on the Strand this summer when London's Largest Living Room moved in to Somerset House and launched the London Festival of Architecture (LFA) 2008.

Between the 20th and 23rd June, visitors to Somerset House’s courtyard found it transformed with a full suite of over-sized furniture, and were invited, free of charge, to make themselves at home.

Designed by up-and-coming practice Studio Weave and adorned with a pattern by fashion favourites Eley Kishimoto, the furniture comprised plywood cut out versions of sofas, armchairs, bookshelves and lamps. By taking these domestic items out into the public realm, London’s Largest Living Room invited members of the public to think about the city landscape as their home, and consider how we could better use the often neglected open spaces around us.
